Violet Larkspur, Delphinium nanum
Flowering between April and August this rather exotic looking plant may be found in sand dunes. It needs as much shelter as it can find so it will be at the bottom of a dune, on the leeward (inland) side and beneath another plant or shrub. The deep violet blue flowers appear on leafless stems and look like pixie’s caps. After much selective breeding the result was the garden delphinium with which we are all familiar.
