Lucilla Theresa Jones Cert. F.A. (OXON) is a full time working artist and a regular exhibitor. Her works are exhibited in National and International collections including at the Royal Artillery Barracks at Woolwich and the Royal Marine 45 Commando Barracks at Arbroath, Scotland following a tour with the troops in Northern Ireland in 1991. More mundane but equally prestigious, the private collections of H.R.H. Prince Kais Al Said, Lord and Lady McDonald Buchanan, Lord Petersham and Ravi Tikoo all contain her work.
Born in Devon and educated in Wales, followed by study at the Ruskin School of Fine Art and Drawing , Oxford University, Lucilla's talent was seen very early in her career, in 1970, by the Dean of Manchester College, Oxford, who commissioned a portrait whilst she was still a student. Portraiture of humans and animals became her forte. By 1980 Lucilla was sketching at Race meetings and painting portraits and race horses in action. Her work was exhibited in London, the USA and Mexico City. Her ability to capture movement led to the world of theatre, dance and music and found Lucilla painting and drawing at the Brecon Jazz Festival with invitations to attend rehearsals at The Royal Ballet, Covent Garden and with the Welsh National Opera in Cardiff. She produced dynamic work like the watercolour & Ink, 'Carlo Rizzi'.
In 2001 Lucilla had already forged links in Spain and was the Artist in Residence at the International Festival of Music in Jimena de la Frontera. From 2003 she has been developing new work in Spain and at her studio in Brecon, Wales. She held a solo exhibition in 2004 at Sacarello in Gibraltar and has continued to produce new works for her forthcoming exhibition at El Monasterio Hotel, Puerto Santa Maria which will be held from the 2nd to the 9th December 2006.
Lucilla's mediums include oil, watercolour and pastel and mix media, her subjects are primarily animal and human portraiture. Her Chinese brush line drawings of animals in action, exemplified by the two bulls locked in combat, 'Los Toros Luchan', demonstrate a fine knowledge of animal musculature and form, the power of the beasts pours from the sketch, whilst the 'End Of The Day' is a tranquil yet satisfying piece in oils.
Her exhibition at El Monasterio will be pictures of figures in motion, many showing man and animal locked in their timeless association of consciousness and spirit like 'A La Bocha', a polo scene, or 'Dos Vaqueros'
Lucilla has recently produced a series of open & limited edition prints on archival museum quality paper which she will be showing at her exhibition ready for the Christmas buyers.
